back on the bike

Back on the Bike

Last weekend I got back on the bike and managed to get a good 22-mile ride. First ride in a while! It was thanks to my bike riding buddy who sent a text and I couldn't say no. Wow did it feel great to be back on the bike!!! Definitely my happy place. I know some folks are riding as groups again, but I'm not interested in doing that now. I breathe too hard when I'm riding!! [caption id="attachment_4198" align="aligncenter" width="320"] In case the bike looks weird to you...

pushing through the roadblocks

Pushing Through the Roadblocks to get Fit and Strong

I want to be pushing through the roadblocks. I want to be fit and strong, For some reason I think that taking on big challenges, or challenges in general right now, is a good idea. I fully blame the corona isolation quarantine thing for my exercise stall. My mental game is different than how it has been the past 12 years of working toward the elusive goal, and now I'm hitting roadblocks. Seeing this little violet bloom in between the cracks of the concrete driveway inspired me today. I'm going to revisit the cue/habit thing. I'll say my mantras. Work my "to-do" list plan my day/week/month. Maybe I can get things clicking like they used to. The book The Power of Habit really links the cue...

What's the New Normal

What’s the New Normal? Coming to Terms with Staying at Home

I've been mulling over this question: what's the new normal? Everything I read or listen to seems to be related to staying at home, avoiding contact with others, quarantining ourselves, and trying to not get sick. It’s difficult to think about other things. However, we just learned that killer wasps have entered the country and the coming hurricane season is predicted to be a rough one. Wow, it’s hard to know what to think or do these days. It's overwhelming. Marketing Have you noticed that commercials have all gone to this sentimental but serious tone as they try to sell you a new car or new windows for your house? It would almost be funny if it weren’t so sad. We're here for you and we'll help...

home roasting coffee beans

Home Roasting Coffee Beans

I’m home roasting coffee beans these days. My son decided that I should get back to coffee roasting and bought me a new roaster for Christmas. Since I’ve been home for several weeks and have more time, I’ve been roasting frequently. One of the things we discussed in our podcast episode 57, Improve Your Healthy Immune System with Dr. Victoria Shaw, was doing things by hand.  Nobody brought up roasting coffee beans but I think it works. How does it work to roast your own coffee beans? It’s not difficult and there are a variety of ways to do it. I have a Fresh Air SR540 roaster which is a small hot air roaster. Some people use popcorn poppers to roast their beans, which is one of...

improving my schedule with a to do list

Improving my Schedule During the Stay At Home

I know I'm not the only one. I need to work on improving my schedule. Something about this stay-at-home pandemic life is paralyzing to my motivation and ambition. Has it happened to you too? It has been about a month and a half since I've been staying at home and not "seeing" people. I'd like to say that I'm finally starting to accept the new normal. Do I like it? No. And some days are easier than others. I'm looking for new ways to adjust and flourish. To do lists include the simple things now. (clean the kitchen, do the laundry, take a walk) Getting a strong hold over my thoughts, which has always been challenging, is my focus. I can't believe it has been only 6...
