Training Her Way to Health with Jill Johnson

#174 -Training Her Way to Health with Jill Johnson Download | Open in New Window When we saw what Jill Johnson posted on social media at the beginning of this year, we knew we wanted to talk with her! Three years ago, she was not walking -fast forward to the end of 2024 when she was able to pull a sled with 4 plates  equaling 245 pounds for nearly 50 feet across the gym floor! The video she posted is inspirational too! She attributes her success to surrounding herself with the right people: a strongman competitor who saw her potential and a coach who knew how to unlock it. She obviously knows about overcoming challenges, getting strong and being motivated. We discussed: What she did to lose 35 pounds and bring her...

Sleep for health and fitness

Sleep for Health and Fitness

Getting sleep for health and fitness is crucial for me. From time to time I ask myself, "What's the MOST important thing I can do for my health and fitness?" My first thought usually revolves around food. Something that I shouldn't eat. Or something that I should eat more of. Then I think about exercise. Am I getting enough? Of the right kind - not too much cardio and not enough strength right? But what I have found is the very most important thing for me is getting enough sleep. Followed up by drinking enough water. Those are two really simple things actually, but also some of the first to go when I get busy and stressed. While the right foods and the right exercise is so important, I...

commitment and focus

Commitment and Focus

The purpose of today's post is to recommit my focus to staying fit and strong.  Recently my sleep and stamina have been in short supply, so I'm starting again.  Getting comfortable with starting again (and again and again) is probably the most important thing I've learned in the nearly 18 years I've been focusing on getting and staying fit. I'm sharing this in case someone else is also at the stage of starting again. Today I needed a bit of help from AI in figuring this out and I asked about getting stronger. These steps will help, but only if I actually do them. So this is what I'm thinking about for restarting my commitment and focus on strength building: Building strength requires both physical and mental commitment....

How to make homemade fermented sauerkraut Ingredients: 1 medium head of cabbage, sliced thin 1 Tablespoon salt Directions: Put the sliced cabbage in a bowl. Sprinkle salt on cabbage. Massage it in to the cabbage, squeezing it for about 5 minutes. Cover bowl. Leave it alone for 30 minutes. Massage for 5 minutes more. Pack it into mason jar. Top with a fermentation weight (www.masontops.com has them) and a pickle pipe. Check it in 10-ish days (my upstate New York winter length of time). The weight keeps the food...

My three focus words for 2025 are: Stand Sleep Strength Stand refers to the average number of minutes I am standing up each day.
